Direct Response Marketing Works All Around The World

Direct Response Works Around The WorldI recently read a story about Ed Dale, Frank Kern and John Reese and their trip to Japan.

They made some amazing discoveries on the trip but there was one that really stood out for me.

See, they were riding the “bullet train” to see some temples in the city of Nara, which by the way are very beautiful. And sitting on the train Frank found a Japanese travel magazine sitting on the seat in front of him.

It was pretty much the same type of magazine that is seen on planes but was in Japanese.

So he starts thumbing through it and then he sees something that looks very familiar. Yeh, it was a bold headline and some very long copy and then what appears to be an order coupon at the bottom of the page.

If you didn’t get that it was….

A Long Form Direct Response Sales Letter Right There In Japan!

The guys could not read Japanese but the Train Attendants could and they could speak english too. When asked, they advised it was for a “Distance Learning Course” and that it was in the magazine all the time.

Ok, so there are 3 things to consider here:

1. It was an ad for a distance learning course. It is a “How To” product as in INFO PRODUCT.
2. It was in the magazine all the time so it must be working.
3. It truly was a direct response sales letter…. just like the kind you and I create all the time…. and it was working on the other side of the globe.

So what does this tell you?

Scarcity Really Works!

Recently I thought I would put a little known, copywriting secret to the test.

Scarcity is where you encourage the prospect by providing some sort of limitation in the offer. This encourages the prospect to take action as they don’t want to miss out.

Some examples of scarcity:
- This discount expires Tuesday night!
- You must order within the next 24hrs
- Until all 200 places are sold.

So to complete my test I decided to run 2 different pre-headlines.

Pre-Headline 1:

>>>>> So any guesses as to which one was the winner? <<<<<<

Yes, the winner was the one with greater scarcity. Pre-Headline 1. It beat headline 2 by nearly 400%.

Pre-Headline 1 = 3.79%
Pre-Headline 2 = 0.95%

So, this goes to show that in this instance…. Scarcity works!

Well I am back from Fiji. 

We have been on holidays for the past 3 weeks.

Something my business has enabled me to do. 

And besides the fact that I was dumped in Fiji, the break was awesome. 

And no, I do not mean my lovely girlfriend left me.
